In a terse announcement Wednesday on the band’s Web site, the Vermont-based jam band announced that it is reuniting to play three concerts next year in Virginia, and plans to announce “additional touring” early next year.
The reunion was not unexpected, as singer-guitarist Anastasio had hinted earlier this year that the possibilities were being discussed. In September, the foursome of Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, keyboardist Page McConnell and drummer Jon Fishman performed together for the first time in more than four years at the New York wedding of former road manager Brad Sands. Now it looks like the band will be in need of Sands’ services once again.
The announcement is likely to gladden the hearts of noodle-dancing fans and tour promoters, who know a cash cow when they ride one. Phish was among the most successful touring bands of all time. Despite an abbreviated touring schedule in 2004, the band hauled in $23 million on the road that year alone.
Phish made a limited number of tickets available through its online ticketing system (phish.portals.musictoday.com) for it March 6-7-8, 2009, reunion shows at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Va. Tickets go on sale to the public Oct. 18 through Ticketmaster, or by phone at 757-671-8100, 757-872-8100 or 804-262-8100. Tickets will not be available at the venue box office and there is a two-ticket limit per show.
